2016 harvest is underway! A bumper crop of Frantoio and Leccino combined with an efficient and hard working team of harvesters has resulted in long hours pressing and great volumes of fabulous oil. We have finishes harvesting and pressing the Frantoio and Koroneiki olives and are partway through the last variety; the Leccino. The harvesting team are working on another grove at the moment, before returning in about two weeks to finish harvesting the Leccino olives. In the meantime I’m enjoying a very welcome break. Over the 5 days pressing, I had 3 very late night/early morning finishes and two nights that I managed to finish in time to eat dinner in the house – a real treat! My ‘early’ nights were down to the limited volumes of Koroneki fruit. We don’t have large amounts of this oil unfortunately, but the volumes of Frantoio and Leccino more than make up for this shortage. Another 2-3 days harvesting and pressing and we should be all done. The oils will then settle in their tanks before being separated from any sediment and then returned to clean tanks in preparation for bottling or filling fustis for restaurants and lodges.

We are hoping to find one or two outlets in Christchurch this year, as we think we finally have the time and volumes of oil to justify an outlet in the Canterbury region. Please email me with any suggestions of retailers you recommend we approach.

I hope all our wonderful customers are enjoying 2016 to date and the remainder of the year brings happiness and success.
