We are looking at the olives on the trees and wondering what the 2018 crop will offer this year, both in terms of volumes and flavours. 2017 was a strange year with good volumes of fruit which produced low yields of oil, resulting in great flavours but about 1/2 our usual volume of oil. The low yields were nationwide and considered a result of the poor summer and autumn we had last year.
This year has been another strange year with the weather. We seem to have alternated between blazing sunshine and heavy downpours! There is a good crop on the trees, but it will only be when I start pressing that I know what the oil yield will be, and of course, the all important flavours! In the meantime I just have to be patient and try to keep the birds from feasting too heartily!
